How To Make Weed Pizza
If you’re familiar with weed, then you’re also likely familiar with the after effect of the “munchies”. Typically, the solution when you’re feeling that hunger is ordering takeout. In many cases, pizza!
So, why not kill two birds with one stone and skip the inevitable order by making your own in advance?
There’s definitely something tantalizing about getting your weed fix from pizza, too!
Why make a weed pizza?
If you like edibles, then marijuana pizza is going to be a very satisfying experience. If you don’t like edibles, then we can understand the hesitancy.
Ultimately, it’s all a matter of preference. Some people prefer edibles because they don’t see the appeal of smoking their cannabis, or simply can’t.
Of course, edibles aren’t without some issues either. In this case, the weed pizza will give your kitchen that prominent ‘weed’ smell after cooking (which may or may not be a bother to you).
Edibles can also provide a great dish for special occasions (providing everyone present is comfortable consuming weed).
And, as with all edibles, the high you get from weed pizza will undoubtedly give you a long, immersive high that lasts. So it can be a bit of a change if you’re used to smoking your weed.
Cannabis Oil
We’ve talked about cannabis-infused oil before, and, unsurprisingly, it can be a fantastic edition to any homemade pizza.
A key step when making edibles is infusing a fat (usually oil or butter) with cannabis before you start cooking or baking. Pizza is no exception to this rule, especially if you’re going down the cannabis oil route.
Most pizzas will use olive oil in the cooking process, so you’re in luck – olive oil is one of the easiest oils to use for cannabis infusion.
But how do you make cannabis oil?
Well, you’ll be happy to know that it’s a lot simpler than you’d think. So simple in fact, that you only need two ingredients:
- 1 cup of ground cannabis flower
- 1 cup of cooking oil (olive oil, in this case)
Then, you just need a strainer, a grinder, and a slow cooker or a saucepan.
The method is fairly simple as well.
- Grind the cannabis.
Include the entire plant, the flower or a bit of both – it’s all about your preference. It’s best not to use anything too small, though, as it will end up in your finished product if it can fit through the strainer. - Combine the oil and cannabis in your slow cooker or saucepan.
Heat the oil and cannabis concoction on low or warm for a few hours. This helps with the decarboxylation of the cannabis without destroying any of the active ingredients. Make sure the oil doesn’t get too hot! - Strain the oil – and store it!
And remember not to squeeze if you’re using a cloth to strain. Anything left in the strainer can be discarded or put to use in other dishes. The oil should be good to go and will last approx. two months.
Cannabis Pizza Dough
Now that we’ve got our oil prepared, it’s time to consider dough preparation! Trust us, homemade dough makes the experience a lot better! Though, stay until the end and we’ll let you know how you can utilize cannabis-infused oil on premade bases and pizzas.
The only difference between preparing dough for weed pizza is adding cannabis oil:
- 400g of flour
- 200ml of water
- 2 tablespoons of cannabis oil
- And a pinch of salt
- Yeast (optional)
The above accounts for four servings, so if you’re looking for extra or a little less, then multiply accordingly. The method, however, is simple:
- Mix the ingredients
Add all the ingredients to the bowl and knead until it’s fully incorporated. It’ll be ready when it stops sticking to your hands. - Let the dough rise
If you’re not using yeast, then the dough will only need about 20 minutes or so. If you are using yeast, then the longer the better to let it properly rise! A couple of hours should see the dough expand considerably. - Shape your dough
This is the fun part! Clean the surface and sprinkle on some flour. You can cut your dough into reasonably sized pieces, or just start rolling and stretching the dough out. If you’re looking to get it in a perfect circle, then it may be a little more difficult. But square pizzas are still pizzas!
If you’ve opted to skip the homemade dough, don’t worry – you can still experience the joy of weed pizza. Instead of infusing the dough with the oil, simply spread the oil on the base or drip it over the finished pizza. It’s not the ideal method, but providing you don’t overheat it – it’s great in a pinch.
Other options
There’s also the option of adding your cannabis oil (or even cannabutter) to the sauce as well! Use your favourite pizza base recipe – whether it’s traditional tomato, BBQ, or sundried, and add the cannabis oil to the recipe. It’s simple, but effective!
If you’d rather not go through the hassle of making your own cannabis-infused oil, then you could simply purchase the oil prior. All the same results without the extra steps. This can be a good solution if you’re not experienced making edibles.
If you’re not a big fan of olive oil, then you can also use other oils, such as coconut or even cannabutter as a substitute in many cases.
Enjoy your weed pizza…
Now that we’ve taken you through the step-by-step process of creating your own weed pizza from scratch, it’s time for you to give it a shot.
Just remember when you sit down to consume it, edibles can take a little while to kick in. So don’t go in for seconds just because you’re not feeling that usual high… it will come.
